I did a lot of research on the net and gathered tons of information on how to choose the best Halloween costumes. Most of it was pretty confusing, so I combined the good info with my own ideas and came up with this awesome list of tips on how to choose the most unique Halloween costumes.

Whether you choose a costume for yourself, your partner, or both (in which case, you’ll need a couple of Halloween costumes), the tips below are sure to help.

Advice for adults and couples.

1. You’re invited to a Halloween party: consider the guest list (kids, adults, teens) and whether it’s a themed party (latest events, historical) before choosing your costume.

2. Now that you know the guests and the type of party, it’s time for you to decide if you want to be unique or wear an old favorite costume.

Brainstorm a list of ideas. If you go as a couple, ask your partner to do it together.

Here is a small list of ideas that I brainstormed:

Pirate couple – very popular (as always) and especially for this Halloween – my favorite

Vampire couple: more traditional and in the spirit of Halloween; if originally designed, they will be the stars in the party

Batman and Catwoman: They’re already a classic couple, but they could also do very well separately

Princess Leah and Hans Solo: a classic couple for “Star Wars” fans of all time

Queen Amidala and Anakin Skywalker – The newer version of the above couple and also a great costume idea for “Star Wars” fans.

Flapper Girl and Gangster – If you are a fan of old 1920’s movies; then the girls grab a straight, shapeless shift dress and a roaring twenties gangster costume for the guys, and their pairing is complete

The Playboy Bunny and Hugh Hefner – I needed a sexy couple costume to finish my short list, and what a sexier thing than that couple, especially the female part

3. After your brainstorming, it’s time to decide if you’re going to buy it online or at your local Halloween store, or just rent it or make it yourself.

I don’t recommend the latter (do it yourself) because if you’re going as a couple – phew, you’ll have a lot of work to do and it will take a lot, I mean a lot, more time than buying a couple of unique costumes made for you and your partner.

You can still buy new Halloween costumes at very reasonable prices, such as discount Halloween costumes or clearance costumes at some large online stores. You will be surprised by the wide variety of fantastic costumes for adults and couples at special prices.

4. Halloween makeup, masks, wigs and other accessories (jewelry, shoes, gloves) – use these as your costume allows or requires. Do everything possible and even impossible to stand out from the costume crowd with your unique and cool Halloween costumes for adults or couples.

If you choose a scary costume, use makeup suitable for scars, warts, blood, cuts on the face or body, or any other variety of deformities to add the realistic touch your costume needs.
