Maryland child support

Maryland Child Support Services ensures maximum support and care for children by persuading and encouraging parents to make regular payments. Expenses for food, clothing, housing, education, and medical care are included in child support coverage.

You may file suit in Maryland court for the award of adequate financial assistance for child support. Children who are deprived of a family life with their father and mother as a result of divorce, separation of marriage, dissolution or annulment of a relationship may be eligible for state child support law. The court has the power to order a paternity test if there is a problem regarding the legality of a child. The state of Maryland has its own child support law. The procedures for determining child support in Maryland depend on each parent’s actual income, the amount of pre-existing child support, the amount of the health insurance premium, child care expenses, and payment for unexpected medical treatment. Tuition expenses in private schools if necessary and travel expenses between the parents’ houses are also included to assess the amount of alimony.

The court calculates each parent’s actual income based on individual salary, commissions, bonuses, pension income, and all other regular monthly income. Various insurance benefits and even earnings from regular overtime work are used to calculate actual earnings. Maryland child support proceedings use SASI-Calc software to find the amount of child support. This software takes into account the number of children, the number of nights the children shared with each parent, the parents’ total income, and the children’s daily expenses. Typically, the Maryland court approves an average of $10,000 per month in child support. The amount given by the parents for child support is not considered an expense and therefore the payments are not tax deductible.

The court has the right to punish or imprison if a person does not pay the amount of child support. The Maryland Department of Human Resources has a Maryland Child Support Compliance Program to help parents estimate child support requirements and enforce the law to raise the standard of living for children.
