How to paint your bathroom vanity

One of the most common questions we get is how do I repaint my bathroom vanity? A bathroom vanity gets much use over the years and is also the focal point of the bathroom. By remodeling or repainting your bathroom vanity, you can bring that old bathroom back to life. Repainting a bathroom vanity is relatively easy and will only require a few days of work and is a great weekend project.

First we have to prepare the bathroom cabinet, for this you will need a screwdriver, sandpaper and a mild detergent. Using your screwdriver, remove the hinges and pull out all the drawers in your current cabinet. Next, take your sandpaper and lightly sand all the bathroom vanity cabinet finishes. Be sure to sand both sides of the bathroom vanity doors. Once you’ve finished sanding the doors, lightly wash the entire bathroom vanity with a mild detergent. Removing all the little particles in the debris created by sanding the bathroom vanity, also use your vacuum to clean up the sanded particles so the particles don’t get into our paint.

Use a high-quality primer to prime the exterior surfaces of the bathroom cabinet. Check with your local hardware store for the right primer for your particular project. Let the primer dry completely before attempting to paint your bathroom vanity. Tape all the edges around the bathroom vanity so you don’t get any paint on your walls or floors.

It’s time to paint your cabinet first stir the paint well before opening. Next, use a brush or roller to apply light coats of paint evenly to all surfaces of the bathroom vanity cabinet. It is better to apply several light coats of paint than to rush the project with a single coat. Let dry for several hours or overnight, and then reapply your second or third coat of paint.

Now that we’ve painted the vanity, we recaulk all the joints in the bathroom cabinets that touch the floor or any of the adjacent walls, reattach all the doors and hinges, and reinsert any hardware we removed during this process. Now is a good time to adjust the doors if they were not hung correctly, making small adjustments to create new screw locations to hang the doors evenly.

Another way to spruce up your old bathroom is to add new knobs to cabinet doors and drawers. Also, replacing the faucet with a newer, more modern style can also help to update your old bathroom cabinet.

Hopefully this guide has helped you repaint your powder room and it has lived up to your current bathroom. Have fun with the project and take your time.
