Enjoying the festivals of Granada

Caribbean charm is a mixture of many things: good food and drink, beautiful beaches, colonial architecture and a relaxed and festive lifestyle that is almost archetypal for the natives of the different islands that make up the denomination. Granada is no exception, and its myriad of festivals and festivities, along with the other factors detailed above, ensures that Granada hotels are always in high demand.

In fact, no matter what time of year you choose to visit this lush Caribbean island, there will always be some kind of celebration. Whether it’s a New Year’s celebration, a boat regatta, carnival celebrations or a music festival, tourists staying in Grenada hotels will always find a festival or event to participate in during their vacation on the island.

Among the many celebrations that dot the year in Granada -some quite familiar, such as New Year’s Day, Carnival and Saint Patrick’s Day-, the most interesting are obviously those that are directly linked to indigenous culture or manage to inject a dose significant part of it in an ordinary ritual. The Carriacou Marroon cultural festival and the Rainbow City festival are examples of the former, while Carnaval, enlivened by the colors and sounds of the Caribbean, epitomizes the latter. However, regardless of their nature, all of these celebrations have one thing in common: whether experienced at ground level or from the window of one of Granada’s many hotels, they allow tourists to experience the best of Granada’s culture. the island has to offer.

Sporting events are another popular element of Granada’s cultural life. No less than three regattas are held throughout the year, each capturing the imagination of locals and tourists alike. A fishing tournament, held in January, highlights another of the island’s strengths and draws the strengths of anglers with varying abilities to the pristine waters of the Caribbean Sea. And then, of course, there are the holidays (like Emancipation Day, which celebrates the abolition of slavery) and the more “common” celebrations – yes, Christmas and Easter are celebrated in the Caribbean too!

These are, of course, just some of the events that ensure that, in Granada, hotels remain fully booked throughout the year. Even if you miss them all, rest assured that the island will certainly have a cultural event for you to take part in, regardless of when you visit.
