Billie Eilish: The World is a Little Blurry Movie Review

If you’re a Billie Eilish fan, I don’t see you being disappointed with the recent documentary called The world is a bit blurry. Far from being blurry, this film takes a very deep and personal look at Billie’s life during the formative years of the young star’s life.

The camera takes us backstage to his brother’s bedroom, giving us an intimate look at the process of recording the songs and the very act of their creation and inspiration. We see Billie and Finneas going over lines and rehearsing lyrics and the very creation of the words that will become a finished song. This look at the artistic endeavor is invaluable and allows us, as the audience, to get a very personal insight into the composers’ creative process that we simply wouldn’t get otherwise. I found it personally gratifying as a creative person to see how easily and with practice lines that have become famous in songs were born and created. I have to say that this behind the scenes look at the creative process was one of the best parts of the documentary for me.

We see Billie’s family up close and personal, and we meet a mother who hangs around and is an intimate part of everything Billie does and is a part of. Her mother is present as she creates songs, eats, travels the world, and is there before and after her onstage appearances. We see very clearly in this movie that Billie is not going to be allowed the “luxury” of drug or alcohol abuse, as the closeness of her mother and her father in everything she does just wouldn’t allow it to happen.

For his fans who have a deep knowledge of his music and a great appreciation of his songs, they will be impressed with the number of songs featured in this film and his live concert appearances. What I found disturbing were Billie’s injuries and the toll it takes to dance on stage on her fragile body. Her heart was in her throat when the film captured Billie breaking her ankle in one of her performances and then returning to the stage to sing seated. What really impressed me was the energy that Billie puts into her performance and her desire to put on a great show every time for her fans.

As we watch Billie and listen to her, we come to the conclusion that Billie truly loves her fans and wants only the best for them, whether it’s putting on the best show or meeting them face to face and touching and hugging each other. The lucky few Billie doesn’t want to be a distant star who can’t be close to her fans and we get to appreciate that in this touching look at the star and her makeup.
