Adventure ski sports in Auli


to li, (alt. 2,915m-3,049m) is a major ski destination within the Himalayan mountains of Uttarakhand, India. Auli is thought of as ‘Bugyal’ in the regional language which implies meadow. In fact, some French and Australian experts said that Auli resembles the best ski resorts in the world. Auli is a lesser known ski destination than Shimla, Gulmarg or Manali. It was only in recent times, after the creation of the new state Uttarakhand (formerly Uttaranchal) carved out of Uttar Pradesh, that Auli became commercialized as a tourist destination.

BEST TIME TO VISIT
If one is a fan of travel, the best time to go to Auli is during the winter season. The period between the end of November and the end of March is considered ideal for skiers. As the winters come, the mountains seem to rise to the sky with arms of snow. From December to March, Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam runs 7 and 15 day courses for beginners and advanced students.

Ski
Auli begins to gain popularity among ski lovers. Though long, tiring commutes and unpredictable weather can kill the mood. He can’t be sure until he gets what to expect. Few lucky people get to enjoy snowfall and skiing. If luck is not on your side, the blizzard can block your room for days. For some it is solid, hard snow that takes away the joy of skiing. Although the GMVNL has imported a snow beater, it cannot provide the experience of fresh snow. There is a long ski lift that connects the lower slopes to the top.

artificial lake
The highest artificial lake in the world is in Auli, right next to the private Clifftop Club hotel. The government has developed this with a view to creating artificial snow on the new ski slopes in case little snow falls. The water from this lake will be used to feed the snow cannons stationed along the ski slopes to provide a good ski surface and extend the ski season.

Points of view
Auli is surrounded by high peaks such as Mana, Kamet and the highest of all, Nanda Devi. The 270 degree view will be enough to make you forget about the long and exhausting journey to reach Auli. Once the skiing is over, the best thing to do at night is grab a chair and enjoy a great view of the snow-capped mountains as they keep changing colors every minute the sun goes down. Here you will understand why the Sadhus (sages) came to the Himalayas to meditate. The feeling of solitude and oneness with God will do wonders for your mind and have a positive effect on your body. You will get what no money can buy “Peace of Mind”

As well as skiing, there are some hiking options available and the list below is part of the route normally completed in a single day Auli – Gorson around 7km Gorson – Tali around 6km Tali – Kuari Pass around 11km Kuari Pass – Khulara about 12 km Khulara – Tapovan about 9 km.
